Description

This monument was dedicated on November 2, 2003 to Lt. Timothy DiOrio, a 21-year member of the Maine Fire Co. and a PA state trooper (July 6, 1966 - Nov. 1, 2002).

DiOrio is the only Coal Township firefighter to have been killed in the line of duty.

Exactly one year from the death of DiOrio, hundreds of family, friends, firefighters, etc. gathered to take part in the dedication of a memorial. The monument features an engraved picture of DiOrio as he kneeled on the front porch of a burning home on First Street.

Dennis Kroh, chief of the Elysburg Fire Department and master of ceremonies, broke down crying for several seconds during his speech. Kroh said "It is very hard to believe that it has been one year since Tim was killed in the line of duty."

The Maine Fire Co. dedicated their new fire engine in honor of DiOrio too.
